1.History/Background of E.U. Country

The Bronze age took place in Italy around 2000 BCE. The Appenine culture which was needed to keep the South and North together took place in 1800 to 1000 BCE. From 1000 BCE to 500 BCE the roman empire took place in Italy. During that time Rome was found by Latins and Surines, but was governed by Etruscans. The Roman empire came to an end when Odoacer, a Germanic leader, defeated Romulus Augustulus. Then in 800 A.D, Pope Leo III became the emperor of Italy. After that in 962, Otto became the emperor of the country, starting the Holy Roman Empire. Later in the 1300's, the Renaissance was born. Then in 1796, France gain Italy, but finally in 1861, it broke free and became it's own country. 10 year's later, Rome became the capital of Italy. By 1936, Mussolini established an alliance with Adolf Hitler. However, in WWII, Italy wasn't equipped to fight major battles. In 1948, after WWII, Italy adopted the Italian Consitution.



2. Year of Admission to E.U. History and General Information about the E.U.

Italy was admitted into the E.U as a founding member.Its economy relys mostly on tourism, fashion, engineering, and food. It has a Two-Chamber Parliament which is the Senate as well as the Chamber of Deputies. In Italy you will find most rich people and rich places in the North but in the South you will find most of your poor people and places.Most archaeological findings in Italy have shaped Italy's government to what it is now. The Italian Rebublic was founded in 1946 after Benito Mussolini's Facist government in World War 2. In 1958 The European Atomic Energy Community and The European Economic Community formed the Common Market. In 1993 it all came together to form the European Union. As of January 1, 2007 The E.U. grew to 27 countries Austria, Hungary, Beligium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and The United Kingdom.


3. How does the E.U. and your country feel about global temperatures/climate change? (environmental issue)

The E.U. is working on making the environment more clean and safe to live in. From 2010 to 2012, it is going to give billions of dollars so that we can breathe unpolluted air. The total GHG, Green House Gas, emissions from 1990 to 2007 has decreased by 9.3%. Italy also strongly agrees. After having a number of tropical diseases hit Italy that were caused by the climate change, Italy is supporting the plan to give billions of dollars to help the world become more eco-friendly, so we think your country sould also join in the fight against pollution.

4. How does the E.U. and your country feel about supporting the war in Afghanistan? (political issue)

For the E.U. they are taking full responsibility for the security, stabilization, and economic development for the war in Afghanistan. They're also spending about 1 billion Euros a year to support political and developmental activities. Hamid Karzai, leader of Afghanistan, has pledged assistance to Italy. The Treaty of Lisbon allows the E.U. to focus more on the challenges ahead. The E.U. will also be spending about 2.4 billion Euros between the years of 2010 to 2012 to support the war in Afghanistan. The Stockholm Program will also allow more freedom, security, and justice. So stop letting the soldiers die and help the war in Afghanistan.

5. What is the economic background of your country and how does your country feel about supporting the economies of weaker countries in the E.U? (economic issue)

Until recently, Italy's economy depended mostly on farming. Southern Italy still heavily depends on arigiculture. Italy isn't the most stable country in the E.U., But it is becoming more industrialized and economically strong within the E.U. For example, the northern region has a majority of people working in factories, and it is the most economically stable part of Italy. There is also a great educational system in Italy. That helps its economy because, if someone gets a great education, they are more likely to end up with a rewarding job. We should give those countries a helping hand.
